The speaking section of the iBT TOEFL® consists of six parts, each with its own unique task to perform. Generally, these tasks are described as being independent orintegrated in nature. Independent tasks require more in the way of descriptions and references to personal experiences, or personal preferences and opinions. Integrated tasks involve exposure to 1 or 2 content sources in reading and listening format, and generally focus on comprehension and reporting skills. All six tasks are delivered in an online format, with strict timing frameworks and responses recorded through a microphone directly over the Internet.
